The Division conducts randomized clinical trials to improve health and prevent mobility loss in patients with cardiovascular disease and in aging populations. Researchers in the division of general internal medicine and geriatrics have experience and expertise conducting randomized clinical trials of exercise and pharmacologic therapy. Examples of ongoing trials include supervised exercise, home-based exercise, and pharmacologic therapies to improve walking performance in older people with lower extremity peripheral artery disease. Ongoing trials of pharmacologic therapy in peripheral artery disease include the study of resveratrol and granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor. All of these trials have the primary goal of improving health and well-being in people who are older and/or suffer from chronic disease.
