In our efforts to improve colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and to reduce disparities, our Center for Advancing Equity in Clinical Preventive Services has compiled this set of materials.
To find patient education materials for CRC screening, we conducted a targeted search of the evidence base, consulting two systematic reviews (Sabatino et al., 2012; Naylor, Ward, & Polite, 2012), an evidence report released by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Enhancing the Use and Quality of Colorectal Cancer Screening (AHRQ, 2010), and a PubMed query. When articles did not have specific information on the materials used in interventions, we contacted researchers directly to request the patient education materials. Additionally, we consulted websites of key organizations to find CRC patient education materials. Lastly, we compiled patient instructions that were available via the internet for completing a fecal occult blood test and preparing for a colonoscopy.
